J(aa)NU at Night.

So last night - or rather, early morning - I was walking back from Jhelum Lawns where the Presidential Debate was held, to Shipra hostel - my home for the night. The campus is usually alive through the night and exceptionally so, during the Presidential Debate night. The following post is about sort of tracing my path with the bits of conversations and sounds I heard, around 3.40 AM.

“… was created by you guys!”
“What do you mean by 'you guys'?”
“I meant the Left – all the Left parties.”
“How can you say …”
[Jhelum Lawns]

“Oh you’re leaving? Good night, bye bye.”
*doggies heard barking in the background*
[a little ahead of Ganga Dhaba]

“Kitna slow chal rahe ho tum sab!”

*girl singing 'Ekla Chalo Re' in a really melodious voice, ironically while walking with five others*
[ahead of KC/the Shopping Complex]

*doggies barking*

*squeaky wet shoes*
[near Godavari Hostel]

“GSCASH mein iss baari toh khada hona padega…”

“Maine na kaha tha? Jungle mein cycling karne ka mazza hi kuch alag hai!”
[near Sabarmati Dhaba, right of the T-point]

“Order numbarr phorty six”
“Ek golden brown mushroom dena”
[24*7 and North-East Dhabas]

“Personally, I think Ambedkar and Parveen had the best speeches.”
“Acha guys, my hostel is here… you think you two can walk on alone from here?”
[near Tapti Hostel]

"What was that guy’s problem? Vegetarianism in the Presidential Debate!”
“Did you see when he came to clarify that he didn’t mean people shouldn’t eat non-vegetarian food? I find this paternalistic attitude of ‘I will tolerate you’ deeply problematic and flawed.”
[between Koyna & Mahi-Mandvi Hostels]

*silent snores of the guard at the hostel*
[Shipra Hostel]

P.S. - So tempted to write, "chaar baj gaye lekin ..."
